Football roles you should know about.



As common we know some popular football roles like holding midfielder, false-9, box to box midfielder.

Here are a few roles you should know about.


1. Raumdeuter

Raumdeuter in German means "space interpreter or space investigator". It was first coined for german attacker Thomas Muller. Raumdeuter, not an easy role to perform and often it is underappreciated.

What role does a Raumdeuter have? It manages to create space where there hardly is. The main role is to find pockets of space. Raumdeuter can be winger-cum-poacher.

Some famous player who play/have played as a Raumdeuter -

Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich)

Delle Alli (Tottenham Hotspur)

Cristiano Ronaldo ( Real Madrid 2016-2018)

Many believe that Thomas Muller is the first and last Raumdeuter.






2. Trequartistas

Trequatistas is an Italian term which translates to "Three Quarters". It gives you an idea that Trequatistas works in a midfield three. It takes place position between central midfielder and striker.

The job is to help the attackers of the team and to play this role a player must have excellent dribbling skills, passing range and ball control.

Classic examples are Zinedine Zidane, Ricardo Kaka, Diego Maradona.







3. Eganche

Eganche is an Argentinian football term which is used for playmaker/attacking midfielder or a no.10. Enganche are usually placed between central midfielder and striker. They required to make through passes to running teammates.

An eye for pass is vital for this job, it requires tactical abilities and tactical awareness.

Both Engache and Trequartistas operate is play making roles.

Cureent player examples are- James Rodriguez, Isco, David Silva.
